Don Weber’s Pole Lathe at Tacoma AAW Conference
Don
Weber undertook
the building of a pole lathe during the on-going AAW Conference in Tacoma,
Washington in 1999. I sat in on one of his sessions. He did a lot of talking
and very little building during the session that I attended. I did see him
working with other fellows at various times on the various components and did
not have a camera with me at the time. I did get some pictures of his lathe
that he had set up and at least some a picture of the leg assembly built out of
pine 2x4’s. I share them here with you.

Here is a view of the pole
lathe with the new leg assembly lying on the floor in from of the lathe.

Here the leg assembly is standing up in front of the lathe. Don Weber is standing in back of the lathe.

This is a shot of Don Weber using his shaving horse to roughly round the spindle before
mounting it on the lathe.

Here Don is starting to turn
a chair part on the lathe.

Here Don adds some detail to
the chair part.
